Lapins Cherry is a self-fertile sweet cherry producing large dark red fruit. Developed in Canada as a cross between Van and Stella, Lapins was bred specifically to be self-fertile – meaning you can get fruit from a single tree. The fruit is large, dark red to almost black, with firm, sweet, juicy flesh. It is often described as a “improved Bing” – similar flavor but larger fruit, more crack-resistant, and self-fertile. Excellent for home orchards where customers want one-tree planting potential. Lapins also has a lower chill requirement than Bing (400–500 hours).

How to Grow
Lapins is easier for home growers because of its self-fertility. It still requires full sun, well-drained soil, and winter chilling (400–500 hours below 45°F). It is more crack-resistant than Bing, making it a better choice in rainy climates. Plant in a location protected from late frosts – blossoms are still sensitive. Water deeply and infrequently. Prune in late winter to maintain an open canopy. Fertilize in early spring with low-nitrogen fertilizer.
